Concert Event Concepts:

Pixel Music – Ewing, NJ – 2015

Description: In collaboration with the Department of Interactive Multimedia and the TCNJ Art Gallery exhibition, “A Palette of Pixels”, the Department of Music is proud to present this concert of outstanding music from video games; including music from Halo, Civilization IV, Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy VII, Journey, Chrono Trigger, God of War, Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros. and others. Featuring special guest conductor and composer of the God of War series for Sony Playstation, Gerard K. Marino. During the day, Mr. Marino will also be speaking at the Brown Bag Lecture series about composing for video games and media.  This concert also features special guest ensemble, The College of New Jersey Chorale and their conductor, Dr. John Leonard.

Katrina Ballads – Ewing, NJ – 2015

Description: This March, TCNJ Schools of Arts & Communication and Education are pleased to present an interdisciplinary week-long series of events revolving around the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. Katrina Ballads joins together disciplines including music, education, communication studies, and the humanities and will include musical performances, film screening, lectures, and a day-long symposium by leaders in the arts and social justice. Katrina Ballads ties heavily to TCNJ’s 2014-15 theme of “Justice” by drawing attention to how the arts and music can contribute to economic and social development.

New Morning for the World – Ewing, NJ – 2014

Description: The College of New Jersey Wind Ensemble presents a concert of music that has been inspired by the social justice and racial issues of the Civil Rights Era. Beginning with Frederic Rzewski’s Coming Together and Attica, the text is taken from quotes from the prisoners during the Attica Prison Riot in 1971. The concert concludes with Joseph Schwantner’s epic tribute to Martin Luther King Jr., New Morning for the World. TCNJ faculty, Reverend Todd McCrary, will join the Wind Ensemble as the narrator and the concert will include stage lighting and photography projected over the ensemble.

Digital Embrace – Baltimore, MD – 2012

Concert featuring works for wind ensemble and live electrnoics:  Augenblick by Christopher Stark, the world premiere of TWEAK by Jason Gerraughty (commissioned by David Vickerman and the Johns Hopkins University Wind Ensemble), and Ecstatic Waters  by Steven Bryant.  All three composers were in attendance and they participated in a discussion of their works with students from Peabody before the concert.  The concert was entirely funded through an online Kickstarter campaign.

Multi-venue new concert music experience project including two performances of Terry Riley’s In C, chamber works by multiple ensembles all over the span of 6 hours. Audiences could pick which concerts they wanted to go to and were allowed to come and go.  Included a large concert by the Oregon Wind Ensemble of minimalist inspired music.
